No more - my idealism to functionality ratio isn't high enough to justify the reboots to get Libre working properly for an hour or less. With its wide range of available office-suite products, easy accessibility and ability to produce professional-looking documents, financial products, brochures and more, LibreOffice is one of the most well-known, free open-source, office suite software platforms available today.Īvailable to business owners, financial firms and individuals alike, LibreOffice gives you access to powerful productivity tools – such as a database program, a math-formula editor, a drawing program, a word processor and a presentation app – at no cost to you. I've contributed more than $60 to Libre Office over the years. The fixes they propose are convoluted - which would be OK if they worked. Libre Office support requires convoluted explanations of the above commonly reported problems, and then tells me my descriptions lack obscure information. It mis-handles the copy buffers.Ģ) It won't open a document - it leaves several instances of itself open in task manager after closing. There are two recurrent issues that I've tried to fix for over a year, they are known issues with various proposed fixes.ġ) It won't paste properly from web pages pretty often - rather than the selected content from the web, it pastes the last thing selected from Libre Office. Time to quit Libre Office (in Win10) and pay Microsoft $60/year. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and help! LibreOffice Writer is currently running smoothly, and I can return to focusing on work. Update: Following suggestions in the comments, I've upgraded to version 7.1.1.2, and my issues seem to be resolved.

Why is LibreOffice so laggy on Windows 10, and what do I do to make it usable?īuild ID: dcf040e67528d9187c66b2379df5ea4407429775ĬPU threads: 8 OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19042 UI render: Skia/Raster VCL: win I've also tried installing previous versions. I've restarted in Safe Mode and opted to completely reset all previous settings and return to factory settings. I did that, and it makes no difference.Īlso, I had a problem with LibreOffice being slow before, though the symptoms were slightly different.īecause of that experience, I have tried completely uninstalling LibreOffice, and destroying every single user preference or settings file I could find anywhere, and then re-installing. I've looked up on Google for solutions, and the most common suggestion is to turn off anti-aliasing. I have installed all the latest updates for the OS.

It's a Microsoft Surface Pro 6 with 8GB of RAM and an i5 processor. My computer should be able to handle this program. This makes LibreOffice completely unusable. But, it will stall again as soon as I do any of the actions that trigger the behavior. It holds this state for five to twenty seconds before it returns to normal. When it lags, it says "(Not responding)" in the title bar, and my mouse turns into an hourglass, and the window greys out a little bit and can not be clicked on (though I can switch to other programs). The lag occurs when I first open documents, any time I move the mouse over the menu bar area (!), if I try to scroll too quickly between pages, and many other actions. Recently, within the last few weeks or so, LibreOffice has become unusable because of lag.
